Introduction
The Children's Weight Clinic undertakes training courses for health professionals through-out the UK. Our courses are educational, interactive and fun they also come highly recommended by health professionals and others - see our testimonials. All of our courses can be modified to your specific training needs. Many of these courses are undertaken in association with other bodies.
In association with Human Nutrition, University of Glasgow we offer three levels of training on childhood overweight for health staff.
- Level 1 - A one day introduction to childhood obesity which aims to raise awareness of this issue among health professionals. It covers - diagnosis, causes, implications, evidence based interventions and bringing up the topic of weight with parents. - Level 2 - A three day course which aims to give health professionals the skills and knowledge on how to work with obese children and their families and to implement both group and individual sessions. This package is intended to be practical, it will be led by a course director and have expert guest speakers over the 3 days. - Level 3 - A two day course which aims to give the skills and expertise to hold individual sessions with children and their families. It is based on the SCOTT project - an RCT held in the UK which showed a modest decrease in BMI SD score (Hughes et al Pediatrics 2008). The Children's Weight Clinc treatment programme (SCOTT) is a structured programme which employs behavioural change techniques.
